The African Americans refused to give up, even if most of the leaders within the community fled. They worked together to rebuild their community. Greenwood became bigger and better than before. By the 1940's and 1950's, they had acquired the name Black Wall Street. This name was given to them because their businesses had obtained a large amount of wealth and they were known throughout the country by the African American community.
